The Blooming 'Sea Wall'.

Barnoldswick in Bloom were ‘flowered’ with praise when the North West in Bloom judges visited the town this summer.

Volunteers of the Barnoldswick in Bloom group got creative and worked for hundreds of hours to produce a fantastic, floral, vertical ‘Sea Wall’ garden.

The sea wall was made using 576 plastic pop bottles, which were donated or collected by litter pickers. The plastic bottles were planted with thousands of plants and flowers, which were originally potted up as plug plants and tended by the volunteers and some young helpers.

Judges from the North West region of the Britain in Bloom competition were impressed by town’s efforts and were wowed by the vertical sea wall garden, which was constructed using a bamboo frame and stretched 25m alongside the marquee of Barlick Beach (a local summer attraction in the town square).

At the beginning of September, the sea wall was moved to its new location outside The Rainhall Centre and reconstructed with a steel frame and irrigation system.

Well done Barnoldswick in Bloom!
