What's Included In A Standard Kit?

Whether you'd like to grow vegetables, fruit, herbs or spices, a polytunnel is an effective way to protect your plants year-round.

If you're considering installing one, a high-quality polytunnel kit can make the process much easier, providing all the essentials you need to get started.

Here's what you can expect from our polytunnel kits.

What is a polytunnel kit?

A polytunnel kit gives you all the parts you need to build a polytunnel in one handy package.

There's no need to buy individual components separately, as the kit is designed so that every piece fits and works together perfectly.

This saves time, makes installation easier and ensures you have a strong, long-lasting structure.

What is included in a standard polytunnel kit?

The polytunnel kits we have for sale include everything you need to make a sturdy structure. Here's what you can expect:

All-steel frame

You'll receive a strong and rigid steel frame, made from Z35 high tensile galvanised steel. This forms the main structure of the polytunnel and includes the following parts:

•    Hoops: These create the curved shape of the tunnel, providing the necessary height and width for growing plants.

•    Foundation tubes: These go into the ground and hold the polytunnel in place.

•    Corner stabilisers: These add extra support at all corners of your polytunnel, enhancing its structural integrity.

•    Ridge bar: This runs along the top of the structure to help keep the tunnel stable.

Timber frames and door

The ends of the tunnel are framed with timber to provide easy access to your plants.

Small polytunnel kits for gardens come with a hinged door at one end and a dummy door at the rear as standard. If you wish, you can upgrade your dummy door to a single door or opt for sliding doors instead of hinged ones.

If you purchase a large polytunnel kit for commercial use, it will have hinged double doors at both ends. These can also be upgraded to sliding doors if this better suits you.

Anti hot spot tape

This self-adhesive tape is applied to the steel frame before the cover goes on.

It helps your polytunnel cover last longer, as it prevents degradation that can be caused by friction and the metal heating up.

Thermal Anti Drip polythene cover

The polytunnel kits we have for sale in the UK include a thermal anti drip polythene cover. These covers offer many benefits, including:

•    Thermal additives: Helps keep the tunnel warm, resulting in lower heating costs.

•    Anti-drip additives: Stops condensation from dripping onto plants, which helps prevent disease.

•    UV stabilisers: Protects the polythene from the sun's UV rays, which can cause the plastic cover to degrade.

•    Light diffusion: Ensures that sunlight will reach the central and more shaded parts of your plants.

•    Anti-dust additives: Makes it harder for dust to accumulate on top of your polytunnel, making it easier to keep clean.

What size polytunnel do I need?

Which polytunnel will best suit you depends on several factors, such as your available space and what you plan to grow.

Small polytunnels (6ft–10ft wide)

These are ideal for:

•    Beginner gardeners
•    Small gardens or allotments
•    Seasonal growing or propagation

They're easy to install, fit into compact spaces and provide enough room for raised beds, pots and small-scale crops.

Medium polytunnels (12ft–14ft wide)

These polytunnel kits are perfect for:

•    Keen hobby growers
•    Families growing food year-round
•    Large gardens or shared allotments

They offer more space for crop rotation and walkways.

Large polytunnels (16ft–30ft wide)

Our large polytunnel kits are best suited to:

•    Commercial growers
•    Market gardens
•    Schools, community gardens or farms

These tunnels support high-volume growing, mechanised workflows and multiple crop zones.

If you're unsure which polytunnel kit to choose, start with a size that fits your current needs but allows room to grow.

What are the benefits of buying a polytunnel kit?

Buying a polytunnel kit offers several key advantages.

Convenience and compatibility

Everything you need arrives at the same time, and all components are designed to fit and work together seamlessly. You don't need to worry about sourcing parts separately or checking measurements.

Cost-effective

Buying a polytunnel kit may be cost-effective as you can save on multiple delivery costs, avoid buying unnecessary parts and benefit from bundled pricing. Our polytunnel kits are "premier" which means they're not "cheap". They will withstand the test of time, so you don't have to buy twice.

Peace of mind

All the polytunnel kits we have for sale are built to last using the highest quality materials. They're manufactured in-house by our skilled and experienced team and the polythene covers come with either a four or five-year warranty to protect against UV degradation.

Time-saving

When you order a polytunnel kit, you can start building as soon as it arrives. There's no need to wait for parts or spend time researching what you need.

Easy assembly

Your kit will come with compatible components and clear step-by-step instructions to make the build process smooth.

Better results

A well-built polytunnel with the right cover and parts creates a stable growing environment for your plants. That means stronger growth, fewer pests and better yields.

How to build a polytunnel

If you're wondering how to construct a polytunnel, rest assured, it can be achieved by anyone with the right kit and instructions.

Exactly how to build a polytunnel will depend on several factors, such as whether you choose the trenching or base rail method.

To give you an idea, here's a simple example of the process for a 6ft wide garden polytunnel using the trenching method:

1.    Prepare the site: Choose a reasonably level spot and make sure it's clear before starting.

2.    Install foundation tubes: Space them correctly and make sure they're level.

3.    Fit the hoops, ridge bar and corner stabilisers: These form the tunnel's shape and ensure it's sturdy.

4.    Build the timber ends and hang the door: Make sure everything is square and secure.

5.    Apply anti hot spot tape: Stick it to the frame where the cover will sit.

6.    Fit the cover: Pull it over the frame, tension it and fix it in place.
