We’ve struck gold!

The votes have been counted and the results are now in for the Great British Growing Awards 2016, and we are delighted to announce that we have won the Gold Award for the Best Greenhouse / Polytunnel Brand.

Dreary January is finally over and we can all really start looking forward to the year ahead. Why not start as you mean to go on this year and give yourself a home-grown health kick?

Premier Polytunnels will be closed from 5pm on Wednesday 23rd December and will re-open at 8:30am on Monday 4th January 2016.

As winter draws in, sheep farmers are starting to prepare for the forthcoming busy lambing season.

Lambing is the most important time of year for both the farmer and his ewes, and so at the start of winter farmers begin planning ahead, gathering necessary supplies, putting plans in place to manage and feed the sheep properly, and preparing the lambing facilities such as housing and pens.

Barnoldswick in Bloom were ‘flowered’ with praise when the North West in Bloom judges visited the town this summer.

Volunteers of the Barnoldswick in Bloom group got creative and worked for hundreds of hours to produce a fantastic, floral, vertical ‘Sea Wall’ garden.

Things are hotting up in one customer’s polytunnel…

The team at Clifton Chilli Club ordered and constructed their 10ft wide x 20ft long allotment polytunnel in May, and it was quickly filled with a variety of chilli plants.

Three months later and the club are growing chillies of all different flavours, from the humble Padron, Jalapeno, and Habanero to the hotter end of the scale with Pink Tiger, Yellow 7 Pod, Bhut Jolokia (Ghost pepper), and the world’s current hottest chilli pepper, the Carolina Reaper.

School’s out for summer!

The summer holidays have started and you have the possibility of bored kids on your hands; maybe you’re wondering what to do to keep them busy and entertained – hopefully our ideas for garden activities for kids will help.

When the summer holidays have started, the kids have finished school, your holiday is booked, and your suitcase is packed... who can you trust you water your plants? This is where polytunnel irrigation comes into play.

When the sun comes out to play, gardeners and sun lovers come out in force. But for some sun-loving gardeners, the idea of growing in a polytunnel can lead to a quandary.

One customer recently asked: “Unusual possibly, but can you still get sunburn whilst working in a polytunnel? My wife might ask, will she gain the benefit of a ‘tan’ while working in a polytunnel? Sorry if this appears somewhat trivial, however a tan can be considered one benefit of working ‘outdoors’, I guess”.

Gardening should be on the curriculum, says Alan Titchmarsh, but is there enough time for it, asks The Telegraph’s Eleanor Doughty....
